Yesterday, at the girl scout meeting we talked about fire safety and cooking related topics. There were cool cooking kits for us to see and try so that we could figure out how to use them. If you are wondering why we were doing these activities in a girl scout meeting, I can tell you that it’s because on Friday, May 13 our troop is going on a camping trip.(spooky! Friday the 13th!)
We learned that when flames are over a foot high, you should NOT roast marshmallows. Also, we learned how to light a match and never light one when we are not told to. Mrs. Peck, who is one of the girl scout troop leaders, showed us a can opener and told us we might bring canned food to camping. We learned how to use three buckets of liquid to wash our plates. First, you put your plate in a holed bag. Then, you drape the bag in a bucket of water. You take it out and put it in a bucket of soap water, take it out again and put it in another bucket of clean water. Lastly, you wipe it dry with a piece of cloth.
We were also given tips on packing. One of the tips was to pack as much as you can carry. I hope that even though the camping trip falls on Friday the 13th, it won’t rain so we can roast marshmallows to make s’mores. I look forward to this trip. I think it’s going to be fun!
